Mini-Split Repair for Ductless and Ducted Systems

Mini-splits heat and cool rooms efficiently, but when one stops working, a bedroom or addition can get uncomfortable fast. Courtesy Heating and Cooling repairs ductless mini-splits, including wall-mounted heads, ceiling cassettes and floor consoles, as well as compact ducted mini-split air handlers, for homeowners across Southern and Seacoast New Hampshire.

Common Mini-Split Problems

  • Not heating or not cooling, or only one zone not working on a multi-zone system
  • Water dripping from the indoor head or down the wall
  • Blinking lights or error codes on the indoor unit
  • Weak airflow or a musty smell from the indoor unit
  • Remote or wall control not responding
  • Outdoor unit not running, or running with unusual noise
  • Heavy ice buildup on the outdoor unit in winter

How We Troubleshoot a Mini-Split

Mini-splits are inverter-driven systems with their own controls, sensors and communication wiring between indoor and outdoor units. Our technician reads any error codes, checks power and communication wiring, sensors, fan motors, the condensate drain and line set, and refrigerant operating pressures. On multi-zone systems we check each indoor unit, since one problem head can affect the others. Then we explain the problem and your options before starting work.

Typical mini-split repairs

  • Clearing clogged condensate drains and replacing failed condensate pumps
  • Replacing failed sensors, fan motors or control boards
  • Repairing communication wiring between indoor and outdoor units
  • Finding and repairing refrigerant leaks, often at flare connections
  • Correcting outdoor unit drainage or mounting problems that cause ice

Ducted Mini-Split Repairs

Ducted mini-splits hide the indoor unit in an attic, closet or basement and deliver air through short duct runs. Besides the equipment itself, we check filters, ductwork connections and the drain pan, since airflow and drainage problems are common causes of trouble with these units.

Why Mini-Splits Leak Water

The indoor unit pulls moisture from the air and drains it away through a small line. If that line clogs, kinks or loses its slope, or a condensate pump fails, water can drip from the head. Dirty filters and coils can also cause the coil to freeze and then drip as it thaws. Turn the unit off and call us if you see water.

Prevent Problems With Regular Cleaning

Many mini-split problems start with dirty filters, coils and blower wheels. Regular mini-split maintenance helps prevent leaks, odors and weak airflow. For central ducted heat pumps, see heat pump repair. Thinking about adding or replacing a system? See mini-split installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a blinking light on my mini-split mean?

Most mini-splits flash a light pattern or show a code when they detect a fault. The meaning varies by brand and model. Note the pattern and call us; it helps us diagnose the problem.

Why is water dripping from my indoor unit?

Usually a clogged or poorly sloped drain line, a failed condensate pump, or a dirty coil that froze and is thawing. Turn the unit off and call us to avoid water damage.

One zone of my multi-zone system stopped working. Is that a big repair?

Not necessarily. It can be a sensor, fan motor, drain or wiring issue at that one indoor unit. We’ll diagnose it and explain your options.

Do you repair ducted mini-splits too?

Yes. We repair both ductless and ducted mini-split systems.

Do you have a repair discount?

Yes. We currently offer Free Diagnostic With Repair and 15% Off Repairs. See our special offers page for details.
