Keep Your Mini-Split Clean and Efficient

Ductless mini-splits move a lot of air through a compact indoor unit. Over time, dust, pet hair and moisture build up on the filters, coil and blower wheel. That buildup reduces airflow and efficiency, and it can lead to odors, dripping and breakdowns. Courtesy Heating and Cooling cleans and maintains mini-split systems for homeowners across Southern and Seacoast New Hampshire.

What Our Mini-Split Maintenance Includes

Indoor units

  • Remove and wash the filters
  • Clean the evaporator coil
  • Inspect and clean the blower wheel, where dirt and growth often collect
  • Clean the drain pan and flush and test the condensate line or pump
  • Check the louvers, sensors and remote or wall control

Outdoor unit

  • Clear debris and clean the outdoor coil
  • Check the fan, electrical connections and line set insulation
  • Check that the unit is level and mounted with proper clearance and drainage
  • Check refrigerant operating pressures and system performance in heating or cooling mode

On multi-zone systems we service every indoor head. When we’re done, we’ll tell you what we found and recommend anything that needs attention.

Signs Your Mini-Split Needs Cleaning

  • Musty or stale smell when the unit starts
  • Visible dust or dark spots on the louvers or blower wheel
  • Weaker airflow than when it was new
  • Water dripping from the indoor unit
  • The room takes longer to heat or cool

What to Expect at the Visit

We protect the wall and floor below each indoor unit, then remove the covers and filters to reach the coil and blower wheel. Cleaning is done carefully to keep water and cleaner away from the electronics, and the dirty rinse water is collected rather than left in the unit. Afterward we run the system and confirm good airflow and drainage at every head.

How Often Should a Mini-Split Be Serviced?

Because many New Hampshire homes use mini-splits for both heat and air conditioning, they run much of the year. Most systems benefit from professional maintenance at least once a year. Units in kitchens, homes with pets, or rooms that run constantly may need cleaning more often.

Homeowner Care Between Visits

  • Rinse the indoor unit filters every few weeks during heavy use and let them dry fully before reinstalling.
  • Keep furniture and curtains from blocking airflow to the indoor unit.
  • Keep snow, leaves and plants clear of the outdoor unit.
  • Avoid spraying cleaners into the indoor unit; leave coil and blower cleaning to a technician.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I clean my mini-split myself?

You can rinse the filters. Cleaning the coil and blower wheel requires taking the unit apart and protecting the wall and electronics, so it’s best left to a technician.

Why does my mini-split smell musty?

Moisture and dust on the coil, drain pan or blower wheel can grow mold or bacteria. A thorough cleaning usually clears the odor.

Do you clean every head on a multi-zone system?

Yes. Each indoor unit is cleaned and checked during the visit.

Is there a maintenance discount?

Yes. We currently offer $50 Off Maintenance. See our special offers page for details.
